London, October 2022

October 2022 saw the return of FuturePMO, which, having sold out, welcomed 250 delegates keen to connect, learn, share and grow together. Conference organisers Wellingtone went all out to create a buzzing environment, showcasing retro arcade games and giant Rubik’s Cubes to bring this year’s theme – Level Up Your PMO – to life.

Now in its sixth year, FuturePMO enjoys a sector-wide reputation for fresh learning and meaningful networking in a safe, fun, sales-free environment. Delegates travelling from Europe, America, and even Singapore were determined not to be derailed by train strikes – booking overnight rooms and setting out in the early hours to ensure they did not miss a minute of the packed agenda.

Federico Vargas (CEO of GE360, International Author and Speaker) delivered the opening keynote, setting the tone for an agenda focused on PMO change, transformation, maturity, and facing real-world challenges head-on. Workshops by the NHS (Chris Stocks) and the National Trust (Andrew Wall) particularly resonated, with standing room only audiences keen to learn from the PMOs driving organisations that sit at the heart of UK society.

Sunil Prashara (Former PMO President and CEO – speaking publicly for the first time in two years), enthralled the audience with his fireside chat with Vince Hines. “I really enjoyed the conference from many perspectives – the setting, the theme, the attendees, and the content,” Sunil commented, “I ended up staying after my session, chatting with attendees and trying to help them think through challenges at their own workplace. Fabulous stuff!”.

Representing a new generation of PMOs was Bianca Hammonds (2021 winner of APM Midlands Branch Young Project Professional of the Year). Taking the stage for her first ever public speaking engagement, she won the room immediately. “At first I was nervous,” she said afterwards. “But my motivation was to inspire other young professionals and leaders, and people have already reached out to me to say that I inspired them, so I feel really proud!”

The closing keynote ended the day on a real high, as Olympian and motivational speaker, Kriss Akabusi, took delegates on an emotional rollercoaster ride with his inspiring journey of personal growth and change. Kriss also immersed himself in the spirit of the day, delighting delegates with photo opportunities and his willingness to stop and chat. “What stood out for me was the effort that the team made on the day to ensure I felt comfortable, welcome and settled before my presentation,” Kriss said after the event.

Other speakers included the APM, West Midlands Fire Service, Microsoft – plus Wellingtone’s Director of Consulting Services, Emma-Ruth Arnaz-Pemberton. “This year, tickets sold out weeks before doors opened,” Emma said. “We know that we could make the conference bigger – but we have chosen to be brave and stick to our policy of creating a safe, informal, sales-free space for PMO professionals. In a world of online meetings, face-to-face contact and the chance to have some fun as a PMO community is more important than ever!”

“I am delighted with the success of FuturePMO and amazed by the extraordinary efforts of delegates to reach us despite travel challenges,” Vince Hines added. “The agenda reflected how personal and professional development are becoming ever more intertwined. We are already looking ahead to next years’ conference and have announced the theme – PMO: The Final Frontier. Space exploration fascinates us all as human beings, and for any PMO delivering change and innovation, a spirit of exploration should always underpin strategy and delivery. I am so proud of our team for delivering such a top quality, value-adding conference and I cannot wait to see Future PMO 2023 open its doors!”
